Career Readiness

The ECMC Foundation Career Readiness focus area is committed to connecting adults with limited or no education beyond high school to career pathways that allow for economic mobility and a family-sustaining wage. Traditional higher education has struggled to meet the needs of all students and industries, though there is growing demand for a workforce with some postsecondary education. Thus, this portfolio considers high-quality, industry-informed, postsecondary career and technical education programs up to the associate degree level as the primary mechanism to meet its goals.

Investments made as part of this focus area include targeted funding that:

  • Builds the capacity of institutions providing or supporting career and technical education;
  • Contributes research to improve the field and promote support for career readiness programs;
  • Develops scalable postsecondary program models that incorporate support services, employer involvement, and academic, technical and employability skills.

While not exclusive to these special interest groups, this portfolio places an importance on projects that improve educational outcomes for single mothers and currently and formerly incarcerated individuals.
