Excelencia in Education Receives Grant from ECMC Foundation to Examine Faculty at Hispanic-Serving Institutions

WASHINGTON— Excelencia in Education (Excelencia) received a $144,145 grant from the ECMC Foundation to examine the role of faculty in the college success of Latino and other students at Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs). Through this project Excelencia seeks to compel action to improve the development of culturally competent faculty and curriculum and to increase the representation of Latino faculty. Further, Excelencia will engage leaders and faculty of HSIs and produce an issue brief with measures of student college success and the impact of faculty and curriculum.
"Faculty play an essential role in the academic success of students at all institutions. This examination of the capacities and intentional efforts of faculty within today's HSIs to support student success, will lead to insights which can be useful to all institutions focused on serving Latino student success." said Sarita Brown, President of Excelencia in Education.
The ECMC Foundation promotes evidence-based innovation that inspires improvements in education outcomes, particularly for underserved communities.
