In early 2021, ECMC Foundation launched the Catalyzing Transfer Initiative (CTI) with an initial $4.5 million commitment to increasing successful transfer of postsecondary credits and timely bachelor degree completion among marginalized racial and ethnic groups. Our work comes at a crucial time: a new report by the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center details the detrimental effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on transfers at all institution types, with particular declines in enrollment among Black and Latinx students, as well as women, and the Research Center’s June 2022 report found that one in four college freshmen do not return for the second year.

With the transfer journey still rife with such equity gaps, CTI has become an active player in the landscape to find, refine and scale innovative solutions.
