June 22, 2018

Year of Grant: 2016

Amount Funded: $150,000

Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry (LMM) helps people who are currently or formerly incarcerated develop job skills and find gainful employment. LMM also works with participants to locate and maintain stable housing, and provides counseling to participants so they can avoid recidivism and become self-sufficient, productive members of their communities. LMM partnered with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections to provide pre-release culinary training and behavioral health services for incarcerated individuals. ECMC Foundation provided funding to LMM to scale its regional efforts of Chopping for Change, the only job-training program in Ohio that takes incarcerated individuals out of prison and into civilian custody for training. LMM also conducted a feasibility study to develop an additional certificate program. Through its programs and services supported by ECMC Foundation, LMM hopes to end recidivism for incarcerated women in Northeast Ohio.
