Joining Students Across the Country, ECMC Foundation Celebrates College Signing Day

May 05, 2017

For many students across the country, the deadline to submit a final college decision letter is the first week of May.

College Signing Day, started by former First Lady Michelle Obama and now continuing under the organization Better Make Room, celebrates and recognizes this important decision in an individual's life. The celebration is a part of Mrs. Obama's Reach Higher Initiative, a campaign inspiring students to continue their education beyond high school.

In 2015, Mrs. Obama teamed up with CollegeHumor to make the rap music video, "Go to College Music Video," which covers the benefits of higher education. She rhymes: "If you wanna fly jets, you should go to college. Reach high and cash checks? Fill your head with knowledge." Watch the full video:

ECMC Foundation is dedicated to helping students from underserved communities meet their postsecondary education goals. We make investments to improve educational outcomes among this population.

Joining thousands of students and their supporters, our team sported our undergraduate college T-shirts to show our excitement. Leading up to College Signing Day, we also shared tips to help students select the right college for them—one that fits their individual and unique interests and needs.

Holding pennants from their alma maters, the ECMC Foundation Board joined in the celebration.

From West Coast UCLA to the Colorado Buffaloes nestled in the Rocky Mountains to East Coast Harvard, our board of directors agree with Mrs. Obama: going to college is great for your future!
