Minds that Move Us Challenge: $100K for Innovative Solutions to Adult Career Pathway Challenges

Too many adults in our communities do not have the foundational skills necessary to further their education, pursue training opportunities, and improve their skill development. As a result, they are unable to obtain and/or further pursue meaningful and financially viable careers. Thanks to funding from the ECMC Foundation, the Institute for Educational Leadership (IEL) in partnership with the Coalition for Adult Basic Education and the National Association of State Directors of Adult Education can approach this issue in a creative way.
Collaboration is to innovate—and great innovation takes diverse minds to solve complex community issues. That is why IEL launched an Adult Career Pathway Design Challenge as part of their Minds that Move Us initiative.
Through this challenge, IEL encourages participants to partner with traditional as well as non-traditional stakeholders to form a team and to design career pathway innovations for adult learners who do not have any formal postsecondary training or education and lack the skills necessary to put themselves on a career path; especially adults with disabilities. Open to communities across the United States, this challenge encourages creativity, collaboration and out-of-the-box ideas as solutions to pressing employment challenges. It includes a design camp, festival, and coaching to assist in the development and implementation of promising practices. While 10 teams will be selected to participate in the challenge, only three teams will receive $100K each. This funding can be used by teams to support implementation, but it is not a requirement.
