Research shows that although 70 percent of first-year college students across the United States intend to complete an internship, only 30 percent participate in work-based learning experiences.

California Competes released Strengthening a Culture of Career Readiness: Key Issues and Promising Practices to show how community colleges and policymakers can work together to build a bridge between education and employment so that students are prepared for career success. Their research follows a partnership between community colleges in Los Angeles County and the local government as they recognize and implement practices that weave career readiness throughout students’ postsecondary journeys. The report also highlights initiatives from regional colleges that can serve as a guide for institutions and county governments to work towards system change and support their students.
